“Deep Well’s mission is to help those in need overcome adversity through immediate emergency assistance. By providing rent or mortgage payments, Deep Well prevents eviction, giving the whole family a more secure and stabile life. If children don’t have to worry about being homeless they are better able to succeed at school. If parents don’t have to worry about being homeless they are better able to concentrate on their jobs and the well being of their children. Stress in the home is alleviated. If workers remain in their homes they continue to be productive members of our society, contributing to the core job market that drives our island economy.” 320 families were prevented from being evicted from their homes in 2008.
• Betsy Doughtie, Executive Director, The Deep Well Project
“For many families in the Lowcountry, poor budgeting can result in the loss of a home or car; an eviction, utilities being disconnected, penalty and late fee assessments, or even basic necessities like food or medicine being compromised. Errors in money management can have a long term effect on credit, and future economic independence of families becomes hindered. Consumer Credit Counseling Services delivers professional and confidential counseling, debt management, housing counseling and consumer credit education to all segments of the community regardless of ability to pay.” 170 families on the verge of financial disaster are now current on their mortgage or rent, current on their bills, and paying down their debt every month.
