Every Child Deserves a Strong Start
The Basics Lowcountry is a community initiative that gives parents and caregivers simple, research-based tools to support their children's growth from birth to age five, because those early years shape everything that follows.
Five everyday practices. Lasting impact.
The Basics comes down to five things families can do in ordinary moments:
- Maximize love and manage stress
- Talk, sing, and point
- Count, group, and compare
- Explore through movement and play
- Read and discuss stories
A child's brain develops faster in the first five years than at any other point in life. These small interactions build the foundation for learning, health, and success in school and beyond.
How United Way of the Lowcountry Helps
We partner with local organizations to bring The Basics resources and tools directly to families across the Lowcountry, making it easier for caregivers to support their children's development no matter their circumstances.
When children start strong, they stay on track. Supporting families is how we get there.
