Getting Help in the Lowcountry
Sometimes life throws more at you than you can handle alone. Whether you're facing an emergency, recovering from a disaster, struggling to make ends meet, or just unsure where to start, United Way of the Lowcountry connects people with trusted local resources. We work alongside nonprofits, government agencies, faith-based organizations, and volunteers to make sure help is accessible, coordinated, and compassionate.
Start with the HELPLINE.
One call. One real person. A connection to the help you need.
Our HELPLINE is your starting point when you're not sure where to turn. Trained specialists listen, assess your situation, and connect you with local services including food and housing assistance, healthcare, childcare, and financial support. All calls are confidential. Help is closer than you think.
The HELPLINE offers confidential referrals, guidance through urgent or complex situations, and serves as a gateway to additional UWLC programs.
Unhoused Assistance
We partner with local organizations to support individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing instability, with a focus on both immediate needs and long-term stability. Services include emergency shelter coordination, rental and utility assistance, case management, and connections to employment, healthcare, and counseling.
VITA Free Tax Assistance
IRS-certified volunteers provide free, confidential tax preparation for eligible individuals and families, making sure you receive every refund and credit you've earned, including the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit. Every dollar returned to a family strengthens household budgets and our local economy.
Long-Term Recovery Group
When disaster strikes, recovery takes time. The Long-Term Recovery Group brings together nonprofits, community leaders, and local agencies to coordinate assistance for individuals and families long after the headlines fade. We assess unmet needs, coordinate case management, and connect families to financial, housing, and rebuilding resources so no one is left behind.
