Summer Book Distribution
Learning doesn't stop when school lets out. Every summer, United Way of the Lowcountry partners with local organizations to help children in Beaufort and Jasper counties keep reading through the break, reducing the learning loss that happens when young minds sit idle.
Last year, we distributed more than 20,000 picture books and chapter books to students of all ages. As an added bonus, volunteers have even recorded read-aloud videos to bring the books to life, including Ron and Natalie Daise of Gullah Gullah Island and Dr. Renarta Tompkins reading aloud in the following videos.
Ron & Natalie Daise: “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly”
Dr. Renarta Tompkins: “P is For Palmetto”
